ninamazing: Black-and-white close up of Cosima from Orphan Black smoking. (top me up bitch!)
Once upon a time, [livejournal.com profile] roz_mcclure did a Shakespeare Balloon Poll.

And once upon another time, I was born a vicious copycat.

So here we are.

[livejournal.com profile] roz_mcclure: [note: all science in this is shit. because it is a balloon poll, and therefore about the most important questions of human survival, like, "who would you push out first, the loyal sidekick or the dashing antagonist?" SO THE WAY YOU PLAY IS: you vote for whoever you would throw out of the balloon, not who you want to stay in. Every few days, whoever has the most votes gets pitched over the edge and a new poll is put up with the remaining cast. JUST LIKE IN REAL LIFE!]

I was totally thinking about who would win in a fight, Rapunzel or Snow White, and then I realized: THIS SHOULD BE A FAIRY TALES BALLOON POLL.

[Poll #1366231]

I am actually really excited to write hilarious, irreverent, wildly meta, smushy fairy tale fanfiction in smirking manner of Fables. PLZ, LET'S DO THIS! (And I promise not to make it all weird and lame with Snow White and the dude.)

P.S. Check it out, [livejournal.com profile] leiascully, you're my title quote again. ;)

TRUE FACTS.

YOU KNOW, I AM THIS CLOSE TO BUILDING A PLANE AND FLYING IT TO YOU MYSELF. As long as I stay in Category C airspace or something, I can do VFR and not network with ATC! I think.

I WILL TELL... WELL, AT LEAST ONE PERSON I KNOW WHO'S ON LJ.

And you'll be fine, there's no standards on fairy tale knowledge - it's 80% childhood and intuition! (Which is why it's kinda ridiculous that I have a class on them right now. It seems all we do is either go around talking about our favourites, or read REALLY obscure 1920s Russian treatises about folktale morphology and symbolism. Oy with the poodles already.)

WOO. EXCEPT I DON'T WANT TO PUBLICIZE BECAUSE I AM INSULAR. MAYBE I WILL WAIT A FEW DAYS SO IT DOESN'T SHOW UP ON FRIENDS PAGES?

Yay! That is good to hear. And OMG, that sounds not very productive but also fun. :P I have a book of obscure Russian fairy tales; wonder if that counts.

And totally counts. Vladimir Propp would be all over your fairytales. If you randomly find yourself in Halifax in the next month, I'll def take you to my class. &hearts

I love Shakespeare so much that I'm taking a lit class on his plays right now. :D

The comedies are my favourites. Of course, his tragedy is written almost the same way. He sets up expectations for the audience, mix in some misinformation, and either everything works out or EVERYONE DIES. The tragedy is too conniving on his part for me to like it. I feel empty inside every time I read a tragedy.

I like the King Henry plays, too. I think the best insults come from 1 Henry 4. "Peace, ye fat guts!"

And I'm sorry for saying "Peter Rabbit," but that's the first thing that came to mind.

Yay! Shakespeare classes are fun.

And ahahaha, see, I LOVE feeling empty inside. So I love the tragedies. Esp. Macbeth, it's so deliciously evil.

LOL PETER RABBIT. Whatever, I am a fan!

ZOMG! I recently had a dream that was like "SNOW WHITE: THE STEP MOTHER IS THE REAL VICTIM, YO"-version.

Synopsis: Takes place in modern times and the StepMom is a hard working business woman who spent her life working her way up through the ranks of the company and is now CEO of a cosmetics empire and has had to deal with battling prejudices and the glass ceiling and MaryKay comparisons BUT her StepDaughter has partied all her life and wants to run the company just because she CAN and she's BORED and thinks she should get it because she has the PERFECT COMPLEXION. So she seduces her way around the Board of Directors and is v. close when Step Mom is like "screw this bullshit" and hires Dashing Man to squire her about the world, trying to distract her with other young rich people and get her interested in like, suntanning in Greece or Cuba or whatever but StepDaughter is having none of that and believes she DESERVES the position simply because she is YOUNG and being old is GROSS. StepMom is having none of this and when StepDaughter is close (Florida?) she is somehow injured and taken to the nearest medical facility WHICH IS ACTUALLY A NURSING/OLD FOLKS/RETIRMENT HOME. Seven geriatrics = seven dwarves and Male Nurse Who Lives With Parents Because of the Housing Crisis = Prince Charming. And StepDaughter lives ever after wiping drool off old people and it is left to the reader if she is happy and StepMom saves the company from debt because she is savvy like that, due to EXPERIENCE, bitches.

ALSO, SLEEPING BEAUTY IS TOTALLY COOL. AND THE MOVIE IS SO PRETTY.

Dude. You have AWESOME dreams. I kind of want to steal your brain, I'm not gonna lie to you! THAT WAS IMAGINATIVE AND DETAILED AND ALSO HILARIOUS. :D :D :D I mean, the Seven Dwarves made a cameo!

The most awesome dream I had recently (I usually have vague nightmares, or whatever) was that Karl and Sharon Agathon came to my house at MIT and I was like "OMG LET'S ALL MAKE OUT ON THE PORCH SWING" and they were like "..."

My college boyfriend and I once made out during the movie! So, yeah, I have good memories. ahahaha. :P

NO WAIT I CAN EXPLAIN.

:P

I LOVED them! At first! I was totally reading the comic all for them! And then I think the store didn't have one of the volumes so I had to skip it and I got this weird one that was about them being in the forest and getting accidentally pregnant and it was just so ...

BIGBY: Let's hit it!
SNOW: No no!
[BIGBY AND SNOW HIT IT ANYWAY]

that it made me uncomfortable. I LIKE FULL-THROATED CONSENT. Otherwise it reminds me of sexual assault and that is not my friend. :(

I just really don't like the seduce-the-unwilling-woman trope. And I found it grew too hard for me to convince myself that Snow actually wanted him. :/
[identity profile] sassydelinquent.livejournal.com wrote:

But they didn't knowingly have schmexy times. It was during their possession time, and neither realised until Snow found out she was pregnant.
They were gonna go out on a date, but then once she found that out she was all, 'No, fuck youuuu!' (Even though he didn't realise either.)

I love Snow and Bigby. Only read up to volume eight, but I have extreme love.

DON'T PANIC

We celebrate peace. Yet we pay no attention to the ways of curing aggression in human beings. And when one sees in psychoanalysis hostility disappearing as people conquer their fears, one wonders if the cure is not there.
