"Hello. You're tall!"

Several things became very clear to me during my watch (and subsequent rewatches) of Dollhouse 1x02 "The Target":

- I am definitely going to have a crush on Boyd Langton / Harry Lennix. He is pretty and deep-voiced and broad-shouldered and comforting (and TALL! :P ), plus badass and has a lot of moral dilemmas. Which he resolves by doing good and being more badass. I don't yet know why he is working for the Dollhouse, but I choose to forget all that because BOYD LANGTON IS A SWEETIE AND I WANT ON THAT. ♥

- I would like to replace everything bad in life with a hefty lump of Tahmoh!Sarcasm. Because Tahmoh!Sarcasm PRETTY MUCH WINS.

- I missed — missed SO MUCH — the way Joss completely subverts my expectations. We can always trust the Middleman to drink milk and not be creepy? BAM! Roasted. (References to The Office will apparently always crop up in my episode recaps.) These are law-enforcing park rangers? BAM! Roasted. Boyd gets taken down by the fake cops and now is incommunicado? BAM! Roasted. Boyd is coming to saaaaaave Echo? BAM! Roasted.

- He promised us that Echo would develop a personality, and she is. Slowly but surely. "No it isn't [going to be all right]" gave me chills. Also "No, I'm going to shoot you with the gun that my buddy gave me" gave me ... an orgasm.

AND NOW FOR MORE! WITH PICTURES!

Panicked!Topher! A whole new dimension to Topher.

- Some people have said that it was lame we got an explanation for Dr. Saunders's scars so early. ???? Dude, it is PROOF that Joss is going to FOLLOW UP on all this shit!

That dress Eliza is wearing? I WANT IT. Want. It.

- AHA! An explanation for why that "Did I fall asleep?" dialogue is so lame! IT IS PROGRAMMED. And that continues, later on, because Joss doesn't drop threads. ♥

- HI MATT KEESLAR. ♥ God he's so good. He should guest star on every TV show. And also they should bring the fucking Middleman back because that was NOT COOL AND I MISS NATALIE MORALES. Okay, back to Dollhouse.

Wild!Eliza = the only kind of Eliza I know.

- As long as she stays wild, this show should be good. And DIDN'T I TELL YOU SHE WAS GOING TO GROW INTO THE ROLE?! I did.

- "Yes, ma'am" --> I love even more that he said that. Because guys who SEEM like they respect you in a feminist way CAN ALSO TURN SCARY. NO GUY IS SAFE. I think perhaps I am bitter and paranoid, but hey, this is why Joss and I get along so well. ♥

Why was he so scared? Only to tease us? He's not supposed to know there's an audience.

- I love the Topher-Boyd backstory. Because Topher is muy entertaining, and I like anything involving Boyd! Also I want to know how they got from under-the-surface aggression to "deep, deep manlove." Also I would just like to say that deep, deep manlove is the only kind of manlove there is. YAY MANLOVE.

- "You're in the middle of Why-Would-Anyone-Want-to-Be-There. What did you expect, HBO?" :D :D :D :D

- TAHMOH. DOING REAL INVESTIGATIN'. LIKE, JOSS ACTUALLY LOOKED UP STUFF ABOUT THE FBI BEFORE HE WROTE THIS, UNLIKE SOME PEOPLE I COULD NAME. LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE. TAHMOH. LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE.

- MARK SHEPPARD! I think what I say about Mark Sheppard is that every time he appears on my screen, a thousand angels get their wings. MARK. EFFING. SHEPPARD.

- I love how the other agents surreptitiously love Ballard. WHO DOESN'T LOVE BALLARD. ♥ "We got any pretty lady prints?" AAAH MARRY ME.

I love the lighting in this shot. LOVE IT. And I loved the lighting in the kidnapping scenes last week, too. I DON'T CARE WHAT ANYBODY SAYS. P.S. GUESS WHO ELSE IS TALL. :P

- Is it weird if I want to see the scene with Ballard questioning Devina? Because one, that actress was great, and two, I love when cute men are nice to little girls. It's a thing I have.

- "I will." So West Wing! One of my favorite Sam Seaborn moments is "Keep up the good work, Sam." "I will!" ♥ ♥ I can't help thinking that Joss Whedon might like Aaron Sorkin — he did mention at Comic-Con that they should work together. Joss would have a lot to teach him about feminism right now.

Eliza's hair is just like mine, except waaaaaaaaaaay more coiffed and amazing. But listen: Hair that looks soft because of gel never actually is. Fo realz.

- I DON'T KNOW THAT I HAVE EVER BEEN SO CREEPED OUT IN MY LIFE. Why does it thrill me that Joss puts my worst fears onscreen? Maybe it's like validation that they exist. And also he solves them by having women kick ass.

MIDDLEMAN, STOP LOOKING SO INSANE!

BACKSTORY. I AM SUCH A SLUT FOR BACKSTORY.

- I love Amy Acker. I love Adele's clothes. I love Boyd's big hands and booming voice. And I love efficient storytelling.

- "The new Samuelson!" --> Topher is hilarious, yet SO uncaring. SUCH EFFICIENT STORYTELLING. ♥

Seriously, there is nothing about this that isn't GODDAMN CREEPY. Matt Keeslar totally wins it with the ABSURD CROSSBOW and crazy neck stretch and ... AND EVERYTHING. EW. GOD. And yet I absolutely believe that there are people out there who would do this.

Ahahahaha they are so obviously not in a car. But I will let it go, I guess.

- Paul Ballard, can I make you come find me? IF ONLY TAHMOH ALWAYS KNEW MY NUMBER AND WHERE TO FIND ME.

"Oh my God, that's hilaaaarious!"

- As I said, Tahmoh!Sarcasm is the absolute best kind. I LOOK FORWARD TO MUCH MORE OF IT IN THIS SHOW.

And seeing Caroline. I loved hearing Tahmoh talk about this moment, and what he had to say made watching it so much richer. ♥ ♥

- This is exactly what Joss meant by "Echo exceeding her training." It is genius. And it is indicative of his belief that everybody has something MORE, that there is something inside all of us that you can't take away. ♥

- "Here is ... not there." I love Joss dialogue. When it's understated, it is SO EXACTLY HOW PEOPLE TALK.

- Cute cop! OR NOT. AAAAH.

"Blood. Screaming. Dying."

- siiiiiiiiiigh. I would like to have sex with Joss's writing.

- Having your hair down, also, is never good for fighting or running or doing anything physical. IT GETS IN YOUR EFFIN' WAY. I always put my hair up before a bout. Or a day in the woods.

Another reason I missed Joss: REAL FIGHT SCENES. LOOK AT THESE FIGHT SCENES. I wish I knew who his choreographer was, and I will look it up, but OMG THIS IS REAL FIGHTING. Disorganized, chaotic, vicious, raw. LOVE EVERY BIT OF IT.

"Agent Ballard has been groping blindly for some time now."

- I would like Agent Ballard to grope me blindly. WHAT UP!

EVEN HIS RAPPELLING IS CREEPY. URRRRGHHHHHH.

- DO NOT DRINK OUT OF THAT CANTEEN, ECHO. DO NOT DO IT. :(

He is SLASHING THE RAFT RIGHT NOW. SO CREEEEEEEPY.

- "You know what gives someone the right to live? Not hunting them!" True dat. A bit heavy-handed, but whatever. TRUE DAT.

- I love how they just talk over her. It is foreshadowing for the creepiness that is to come. I also love that Boyd totally does not want to be here. It makes me love him. And it makes sense that he would have to hold her hand. Tactile proximity does enhance bonding protocol! This is super-plausible and super-creepy and Joss is playing with it and I LOVE IT.

- "You rush the brushstrokes, you get a clown on black velvet!" :D I LOVE NEW SAYINGS.

- YES. Shoot kneecaps, THEN ask questions. None of this pussyfooting around like we usually see in interrogation scenes, with endless threats of violence and endless prevarication, on and on and on ... NO. THIS IS HOW IT IS ACTUALLY DONE. REALISM. BOYD. MMM.

ALPHA ALPHA ALPHA.

- There is definitely something going on there. Alpha totally hired this guy, imprinted him, the whole deal ... damn. I can't wait to find out. And now that I have seen a Casting Spoiler, I KNOW EXACTLY WHO ALPHA IS AND THAT IS SO HIM! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! :D

"You know, they're only leftovers if you've already eaten some! Heh heh!"

- I DO NOT LIKE ELLIE. I know I said I liked Joss dialogue, but "I should thank you by ... thanking you" is COMPLETELY LAME. NOBODY IS THAT LAME. I would be crushing on Tahmoh too, but for serious, girl, show a little self-respect. My sister said that Ellie must be a doll/Active, assigned to keep an eye on Paul Ballard, WHICH I LIKE. If she is a real person I will be angry, because that shit is pathetic.

Also, isn't Paul supposed to be disconnected and recently divorced and beaten down by the world and all that? ISN'T THAT WHAT THE SHIRTLESS MUAY THAI EXPLOSION WAS SUPPOSED TO TEACH US? I like my men noble and hated by society, dammit. And I like my characters consistent.

- I DO, however, like "Lucky girl." Because ha. She has no idea. So many things have layers ... usually when people think someone is lucky, they are ever so wrong. And that is a nice reminder.

- I kind of love thinking about all the times Boyd must have listened to her pre- and post- jobs. He probably has quite a clue as to what's special about her. COME ON, BOYD. LISTEN TO YOUR BETTER ANGELS. Also "heavy" guys FTW.

- I am kind of loving Eliza in this ep. All you haters can suck it.

"Everything's gonna be all right."
"No it isn't."

- DAMN. THE STEELY RESOLVE IT TOOK FOR HER TO SAY THAT. AND HOW ONLY WE KNOW. ♥

- AHAHAHAHA BOYD, THE TABLES HAVE TURNED. JOSS, ILU SO MUCH. NOW HE TRUSTS HER WITH HIS LIFE. EQUALITY IS ON THE WAY.

- "Four brothers. None of them Democrats." --> EFFICIENT STORYTELLING AAAAAH

- Unexpected Matt Keesler Ass Shot = I approve. But am also creeped out.

- "I'd be disappointed if it was." --> You'd be disappointed if it were, Matt. Disappointed if it were. I don't care if it's unrealistic; ALL MY CHARACTERS ARE GOING TO USE THE SUBJUNCTIVE. When it's correct, of course.

"No. I'm gonna shoot you with the gun my buddy gave me."

- I may be easily amused, but I'm pretty sure I just came.

"Nobody makes me bleed my own blood!"
- White Goodman, Dodgeball

- "On the count of 3, we both back off. Deal?" --> SHOOT HIM ANYWAY. SHOOT HIM ANYWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Aaaaaaaand of course they do, because they are real people. ♥

- "You poisoned me and tried to shoot me with arrows." --> "You shot me in both kneecaps and lit me on fire!" </familyguy>

- I like her Combat Yell (girls, or at least the girls I've fought with, do that; it's awesome) and ...

I DON'T MIND THE MATRIX SPECIAL EFFECT. THOSE ARROWS WERE PRETTY, OKAY.

CREEPY FACE CREEPY FACE AAAAH. It makes it so much more horrible that he's actually enjoying this, but in real life, they do. This is where crazy psycho killers get their pleasure.

That's what I like to call the Kara-Leoben Special.

Matt Keeslar, so creepy how you slurred your words as you choked on your own blood. Also fine performance. Rawr.

I am totally getting a Giles-Buffy post-apocalyptic vibe from this scene now. AND IT'S LOVELY. He can barely move, but still he puts his arm around her! BOYD. THERE IS MORE TO YOU. I AM SURE OF IT. ♥

- (I tend to confuse relationships that everyone else thinks are supposed to be father-daughter. Like Boyd-Echo. My sister thinks I am disgusting. People who, uh, were not paying attention during Serenity or any of the Firefly comics thinks Mal/River is disgusting. Can I share a little secret about incest? IT IS ONLY INCEST IF YOU ARE ACTUALLY RELATED. Also RELATIONSHIPS EVOLVE. I am still shipping Paul/Echo as apparently you are supposed to, but I'm just trying to nip all this judgment in the bud, not that that will actually do anything. I just think that just because someone is older and you lean your head on his shoulder and he sometimes feels a protective urge toward you ... DOES NOT MEAN HE IS YOUR FATHER. My father is my father. Other boys are fair game. And Echo is not in a place where she can be with anybody right now, so.)

- And then a fast, fluid transition to the mindwipe. Which we all know turns on my inner effects slut.

BOYD. Also Eliza's PURE COLLARBONE. HOW DOES HER SKIN NOT HAVE DEFECTS. GAAAAAD.

- See? ALPHA IMPRINTED HIM TO GIVE ECHO THE SHAKES. Scary guy. Scary guy with a PLAN! "He was dead when we got there. But not from his run-in with Langton." OOH.

I love Amy Acker and the quiet way she is playing this role. There is more to her, too.

- "And they'd never lie to us about something like that, would they?" --> OH, THERE ARE SOOOOO CONSEQUENCES TO WORKING FOR A SMALL CONGLOMERATE OF RICH CRIMINAL MASTERMINDS.

- This bit at the end is almost creepier than everything that came before. Like: JESUS. The Dollhouse is supposed to be all crazy for viewers because most of the employees/people-in-charge rationalize it away, but of course the ASSHOLE WHITE MALE would have no problems being an unabashed douchebag. Echo, you better revenge yourself on him someday. homg.

AND SHE WILL.

- Paul Ballard, can I make you come find me? IF ONLY TAHMOH ALWAYS KNEW MY NUMBER AND WHERE TO FIND ME.

*sings* Sitting like a mindless clone/wishing he would tap my phone...

*cough* I mean, more sexy FBI agents for EVERYONE!

[identity profile] ninamazing.livejournal.com 2009-02-26 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
YES EXACTLY.

Ohgods, did I tell you my thing about how I wish I had any musical talent because if I did I would SO be the Bree Sharp to Tahmoh Penikett's David Duchovny?

I SO WOULD.

[identity profile] slayerkate.livejournal.com 2009-03-08 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
Tahmoh Penikett, why haven't you called yet...

Dude, you said it. He is quickly moving up my favourites list. Mmm... deep, comforting voice.

That's what I like to call the Kara-Leoben Special.

*snorfles*

I loved Matt Keeslar as the Middleman and his milk-imbibing ways, but I was introduced to him in Dune and Feyd Ruatha was one creepy mother fucker! So this evilness was not too surprising.

...Actually it totally was. What a mind frak. I went from "Ooh, weird consent issues, la la, hi pretty people" to "AH, WTF IS GOING ON?" ;D

I loved this recap! Hope to see more of them.

[identity profile] ninamazing.livejournal.com 2009-02-26 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
MMMM, HARRY LENNIX. ♥

That is an awesome icon. And DUDE THANK YOU SO MUCH AND I AM SO GLAD YOU LIKED MY RECAP. I thought it was total insanity, so I figured it would be my first and last one, but NOW YOU HAVE SPURRED ME ON. :)

It was SUCH a mindfrak. OMG. I think everybody's with you there.

But everybody seems to have seen Matt Keeslar being evil in something else pre-Middleman! Arrrgh, I don't remember him from anything! And I even watched that disco movie during my Robert Sean Leonard phase! :P

[identity profile] squaringkarma.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
See, I really like this episode ON ITS OWN. It's just compared to "Ghost," something feels a bit off. I'm clearly alone in this opinion and obviously we've only had two ways of seeing the show, but still something instinctively feels different about the two episodes we've had.

[identity profile] ninamazing.livejournal.com 2009-02-26 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
OH YES. If I understand what you're saying correctly, I definitely agree with you — these episodes had two COMPLETELY different feels. But I think that was intentional. Joss has played up the idea that since Echo can be anyone, this can also be a completely different show from week to week.

[identity profile] squaringkarma.livejournal.com 2009-02-26 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
But it wasn't Echo that I felt the most difference from. (Because I knew to expect her to be different though there were still some similarities.) I think it was Topher.

[identity profile] ninamazing.livejournal.com 2009-02-26 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Seeing him vulnerable at the beginning? Or the way he was for the rest of the episode? He did seem to kind of care about Boyd more than you'd think, but maybe there's more to that ...

I think we saw MORE of him, but it didn't necessarily feel different to me.

[identity profile] squaringkarma.livejournal.com 2009-02-26 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
The vulnerable thing seems to hit something, but it was definitely throughout the episode. Hm. I haven't had the chance to rewatch the episode to pinpoint exactly why, but that very well could be it.

I screamed a couple of times during this episode. It freaked me out soooo much.

I want to marry Dollhouse and have lots of little Dollhouse babies with it. Mmmmph I love it so much.

ALSO- as I glanced at the tags for this entry, I didn't see the comma between 'body' and 'clothes' and thought Body clothes? As opposed to...not body clothes? And had a few seconds of confusion before I noticed they were two separate tags. ;)

[identity profile] ninamazing.livejournal.com 2009-02-26 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Awww! *cuddles* But YES OMG IT WAS SCARY. I mostly yelled, referring to Richard's character as "the Middleman" and imploring him to stop all this and drink some milk.

Ahem.

I want to marry Dollhouse and have lots of little Dollhouse babies with it. Mmmmph I love it so much.

OMG IT MAKES ME SO HAPPY TO HEAR YOU SAY THAT. Because sometimes it feels like all I can see is the Negative Nancies. And I sort of want to cry because JOSS FINALLY HAS HIS OWN SHOW AGAIN AFTER FIREFLY AND IT IS GOOD AND I JUST WISH ... I COULD BAKE A CAKE FILLED WITH RAINBOWS AND SMILES AND WE COULD ALL JUST EAT IT AND BE HAPPY.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to "ahem" again.

ahahaha OH MY TAGS. i wish my tags were as cool as [livejournal.com profile] fireworkfiasco's, to be honest with you.

[identity profile] shamoogity.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
People are upset because Joss is explaining things too soon? Ugh, I don't want this to be Lost or Heroes. I want this to be a Joss show where there are episode arcs within mini-arcs within seasonal arcs within serial arcs. He knows how to give enough to keep you satisfied while still making you want more.

You're killing me with the Alpha casting spoiler thing. I've never analyzed a silhouette so carefully.

Also, I'm pretty sure Steven DeKnight wrote this episode.

[identity profile] ninamazing.livejournal.com 2009-02-26 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
YES. ♥ ♥ THANK you. YES. GOD. Give Joss a chance! So far he's intrigued the hell out of me.

Do you want me to tell you? I CAN TELL YOU!

ZOMG you are so right. I am an idiot. Thank you for the heads-up!

[identity profile] shamoogity.livejournal.com 2009-02-26 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Do I want you to tell me? Kind of. But no!

[identity profile] ladydreamer.livejournal.com 2009-03-08 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
People are upset at him explaining things too soon, but they're also upset for him not explaining other things soon enough. Like the fact that the Dollhouse is BAAAD.

Agreed on the Joss archs.

[identity profile] jqsilver.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 06:21 am (UTC)(link)
Ellie is so totally an Active. BUT my theory is that she is not a Dollhouse Active, no, that would be too obvious. She must be an Alpha-created Active.

[identity profile] ninamazing.livejournal.com 2009-02-26 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
But why would Alpha create an Active to mack on Tahmoh? DOES ALPHA ALSO WANT TAHMOH? I'd believe that. Everybody wants Tahmoh.

(♥ YOU LIKE DOLLHOUSE :) )

[identity profile] jqsilver.livejournal.com 2009-02-27 01:20 pm (UTC)(link)
(LOL STEVE HOLT. There was totally a kid in my program last year named Steven Holt, but not enough kids had seen AD for me to shout his name every time I heard it.)

Well, if we assume Alpha is sending Tahmoh encouraging messages, he may want to place someone there to "encourage" him even more.

How about using packing tape? Still strong, will hold stuff together, but it's SEE-THROUGH.

[identity profile] beck-liz.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 11:56 am (UTC)(link)
I actually enjoyed this episode much more than the first one. But there are a number of people on my flist who looked at it and went, "Eh, boring, skeevy, misogynist - this is the worst show EVAR!" and ditched it. *sigh* They seem to think this show is wrong, wrong, wrongity wrong wrong. Oh, well. Their loss.

I LOVE the idea of Boyd/Echo. Obviously, only after she regains her agency full-time (even if no one but Boyd knows), but yeah. But then, I was a Mal/River girl for awhile there, too, and I still prefer that vastly over Mal/Inara, which mostly just gives me hives, even though I like Inara. Just not with Mal.

[identity profile] ninamazing.livejournal.com 2009-02-26 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what I like to call MISSING THE POINT ENTIRELY. *facepalm* I trust Joss to deal with these issues. He oh-so-very-rarely (dare I say never?) lets me down, and he learns in every project he does. And he has pointed out that it is intentional — it is supposed to look like a misogynist fantasy, because it is, and the horrific thing about it is that it's also plausible.

YES OMG SO EXCITING I DON'T THINK I KNEW THAT ABOUT YOU. *clings* We Mal/River shippers are a tight and loyal bunch. And I am ... so one of them. :P I wrote mucho mucho fanfiction back in the day. So yeah, TOTAL AGREEMENT OVER HERE. Mal and Inara just hurt each other all the time ... I never see evidence of enough love to just stop being mean to each other. Meanwhile Mal and River seem to understand each other on a much, much deeper level. I suppose that would be my view in a nutshell.

[identity profile] beck-liz.livejournal.com 2009-02-27 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
I trust Joss to deal with these issues.

You know, I think that's part of the problem right there. A lot of people don't trust Joss anymore, so they find it hard to believe things will get better.

YES OMG SO EXCITING I DON'T THINK I KNEW THAT ABOUT YOU.

Heeeee. Yeah. I was never into Firefly like I was into Doctor Who, but I did enjoy it. But I was never into the majority of the ships, slash or het. The movie really pinged Mal/River for me. My linking for M/R was cemented by [livejournal.com profile] srichard's River series, and I was never able to find more than a few M/R stories beyond that series.

I never liked the way Mal and Inara couldn't seem to keep themselves from sniping at each other, especially the way Mal couldn't seem to stop calling her degrading names related to her profession. *eyeroll* Good grief. Love ya, Mal, but bad dog! No biscuit!

[identity profile] ohvienna.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 01:18 pm (UTC)(link)
We can always trust the Middleman to drink milk and not be creepy?

Have you not seen Psycho Beach Party? I associate him with that, first and always. :)

[identity profile] ninamazing.livejournal.com 2009-02-26 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
NO. But now I will. This was like when I had a giant crush on Ten and then watched Secret Smile! DAVID TENNANT IT TOOK ME SO LONG TO TRUST YOU AGAIN. :P

I saw Dollhouse last week because I was actually HOME on a Friday night, not doing anything at all, just laying around being lazy, and I liked it. I don't know ANYTHING about the show, so idk if I'll get that into it since I won't actually be at home Friday most days but whatev. I hope it works out with FOX because it looks like a great show.

[identity profile] ninamazing.livejournal.com 2009-02-26 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
YAY! I'm glad you liked it and I mucho appreciate the sentiment, because Joss is boss. ;) You should download if possible, but I totally understand having a life. I had a life, once upon a time. ;)

[identity profile] braindrain.livejournal.com 2009-02-27 07:48 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah I may end up buying it on DVD because it turns out that's how I watch most TV anymore, besides shows that there are constantly reruns of, like crappy MTV reality shows (but only the BEST ones haha), Top Chef, and House.

REAL shows, with plots and complex characters, I pretty much only have time for when I can pause and come back. :\ I hate that because I always get mildly spoiled by Life it seems.

For ex- I still have to watch Arrested Development. I've seen parts of both seasons but not any stretch of the show all at once. And that is a tragedy, I hear. :)

[identity profile] thunderemerald.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)

Like Mal pushing that guy into the propeller in "The Train Job" and shooting the Operative from the hip in the BDM!

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES LIKE ALL THOSE THINGS! OR LIKE IN THE PILOT WITH THE BIG GUN STANDOFF WHERE MAL JUST WALKS UP AND SHOOTS DOBBS! MAAAAAAL.

MAAAAAAAAAAAL. Fuck, I need my Firefly DVDs back. I wanna marathon.

EPIC POST IS EPIC!!

1) Aw, I wish I could back you up on Boyd!crushing. But I'm not getting that vibe. I think he is SWEET, but I don't see myself ever being attracted to him. I dunno, I get a v. strong paternal vibe. I bet he has an ex-wife and kids because cops can't have successful marriages. Or so TV tells me.

2) OH, TAHMOH SARCASM! I DID NOT EVEN KNOW THAT MY WORLD WAS MISSING SOMETHING THIS VITAL!

3) I feel like a fool because in the first episode, I didn't even SEE her scars so this made me look at them extra hard. It now makes sense why Echo wanted to touch her face. *facepalm* I wish I could blame my TV's reception/size for this.

4) I sorta like these programmed phrases. Like how they just always ACCEPT "It's time for your treatment". It's very cool.

5) I only ever saw a couple episodes of Middleman, so I didn't recognise the antagonist. He was just That Creepy Guy.

6) P.S. GUESS WHO ELSE IS TALL. :P
*raises hand*
Is it TAHMOH? IS TAHMOH ALSO TALL?

7) BACKSTORY. I AM SUCH A SLUT FOR BACKSTORY.
Hee. Aren't we all?

8) I DO, however, like "Lucky girl." Because ha. She has no idea. So many things have layers ... usually when people think someone is lucky, they are ever so wrong. And that is a nice reminder.
Good point.

I liked this episode, maybe more than the first one? Maybe less than the second one? I really liked A)Sierra and B)Echo's head-shake in the third episode and the questions it brought up push it ahead in terms of favourite.

From the dollhouse_tv comm.

I've been meaning to do some meta, but I'm kind of lazy waiting for more so that I can do some longer reaching analysis.

For now though, thanks for sharing the unmitigated squee, because I love to see it for Dollhouse! MOAR SQUEE! I love Echo. ;_;

Also here via the Dollhouse TV comm! Holla!

Dude, I bet you've never seen the episode of The Inside where Matt Keeslar plays a creepy psycho? He's very good at it, 's all I can say. I immediately recognized him when watching The Middleman and it took me a few episodes to trust him :D

YES AND DITTO on the Boyd!crushing. Gah. Interestingly, over here (the Netherlands), the legal definition of incest includes any sexual relations between someone in a position of power and the person he or she has power over. Like a teacher/student relationship a.s.o. Mal/River could fall under that definition, depending on River's lucidity at that moment, as could Boyd/Echo with Echo in her doll state. Not that I care ;-) As a real, live example of someone with a Daddy complex who only falls for the older, patriarchal type, I heartily endorse much fic.

I loved that bit at the end with Lawrence. I was all like, LAYERS! THE DUDE HAS LAYERS TOO! HOW IS NOT ALL TELEVISION PRODUCED BY THE AWESOMENESS THAT IS JOSS?!?!

Because damn. I missed him. I didn't even know how much I've missed Joss.

I'm not feeling the Tahmoh!love though. Well, I think he's a good actor, and his character is interesting, but I don't find him hot at all! To me he's just bland and sort of um, looking like he rides the special short bus to school. I wish Joss had cast the nummy Ed Quinn in this role. NUMMY!

Yes. Hmm. Well, off to read the other review! Keep doing this, and I might have to friend you ;-)

I DO NOT LIKE ELLIE. I know I said I liked Joss dialogue, but "I should thank you by ... thanking you" is COMPLETELY LAME. NOBODY IS THAT LAME. I would be crushing on Tahmoh too, but for serious, girl, show a little self-respect.

Her name is actually Mellie and not Ellie. I like her. She surely is a little bit pathetic in the way she pines (and sort of stalks him), but I think she's cute and I'm looking forwards to see more of her, hopefully not as a doll in disguise.

I second the Boyd love. It's a really interesting character and I like the bond between him and Echo.

Ahahahaha they are so obviously not in a car. But I will let it go, I guess.

- Paul Ballard, can I make you come find me? IF ONLY TAHMOH ALWAYS KNEW MY NUMBER AND WHERE TO FIND ME.

See, that's what kind of makes me go "huh?" in light of more recent revelations about "Victor". Has the Dollhouse sorta kind dedicated him to the Ballard issue? What happens if a call comes in on his phone while Victor's been wiped and is recuperating? For that matter, was Victor actually the Dollhouse's in-guy with the Borodins? Do the Borodins as described by the FBI actually exist, and if they do, why didn't they cap Victor a long time ago (being paranoid criminal types and all; I clearly watched The Departed too many times)?

My plot-hole analyzer is working overtime.

That said, I did like this week's ep ("Grey Hour"?). What is Alpha up to? Is he trying to trigger a hybrid multilayered personality in Echo, too -- is that why he presumably sent the interrupt signal in the middle of an op?

So many questions. But at least it seems like we might have some of the answered eventually.

Also, no way that Ellie is a doll/Active. Every single active we've seen is a hardbody/physically gorgeous -- and Ellie, though not unattractive, isn't by any stretch model caliber. She's the everygirl. And rich white jackasses -- or Asian or Hispanic or whatever jackasses -- don't pay millions of dollars for the everysomebody. (Which is sorta more succinct than saying the everyman/woman/girl/boy/whatever, but not really.)
