But if you really really want to keep your respect for both Helo and the show (and I do!) I do think you can make a decent argument for it not being his fault. It's already been established that other 8s looked at Athena's downloaded consciousness, became Helo fangirls, and copied things like the backrub from it. And Boomer was definitely still on the baseship when Athena got downloaded.
What else do we know about Boomer? She's super-obsessive with the concept of being happy and together, and super-jealous of Athena for actually getting that chance. She's incredibly attentive to details... see the "Boomer/Tyrol Happy Place" projection. And she can project very strongly.
It's totally within belief that Boomer has been spending a huge chunk of the last several months living and reliving Athena/Helo sex memories. If some random 8 can get a backrub to be recognizably an Athena Backrub[TM], an 8 as talented and obsessive as Boomer can surely emulate something as complex as sex. (And don't forget that Athena has always been somewhat connected to Boomer (perhaps more so than other 8s): when she was first introduced, Athena had all of Boomer's memories up to the point of the attack on the colonies.)
Add on to the obsessively-practiced Athena-Sex the fact that Boomer is strong at projection... perhaps she literally just projected a past sexual session, moan for moan, at Helo. (Humans can receive projection, or at least Baltar can.) Pull out the "memories of Athena having sex with Helo" data file, press play...
So yeah, it might not quite pass Occam's Razor. But I think there's a reasonable argument to be made that Helo had no chance to tell the difference.

Very very true.
One thing that bothered me was that the Chief pointed out Boomer in about ten seconds — but the Chief is a Cylon, of course! (Has he ever had trouble differentiating before? Because that would take us back to square one ...) I forgot that. And Athena is a Cylon too, so there's certainly an argument to be made for Special Cylon Powers, too.
Okay, Helo. I forgive you. I just hope Athena can. (And it's not even an issue of forgiveness, actually — even if I were Athena and recognized that it was totally not his fault, it would still squick me to the point where I probably couldn't have real sex or intimacy with him again. At least for a long while. AUGH. I am really really hoping we get some kind of "those two crazy kids work it out" scene this week, but of course there is NO TIME because there are only three episodes in and there is all this IMPORTANT STUFF we have to get to. Maybe I will pay Grace and Tahmoh to fly down here and do it for me.)
