ninamazing: Black-and-white close up of Cosima from Orphan Black smoking. (juno macguff)
Dear Yuletide Author,

It's lovely to meet you. I'm sorry this is so late. And I'm not holding you to any of this.

I like:
  • semicolons
  • snappy dialogue
  • character studies
  • a healthy respect for canon
  • references to other awesome books/movies/music/TV (when fandom-appropriate, of course)
  • experimental structures and exciting words
  • depictions of loving, consensual, yet possibly kinky sex that don't use the words "dick," "mound," or (ye gods) "cum"

I also like when the author is clearly into what she is writing and has something to say, so if any part of my prompts inspires you toward any particular creation, GO FOR IT. I am definitely going to love the story more if I can tell you were passionate about writing it. And you should have fun doing Yuletide, because that is what Yuletide is for. (If you even want to grab your drug of choice and write your Yuletide fic in an intoxicated creative fury, I FULLY SUPPORT THAT!) Also I love you to begin with just for being my gifter, so you really can't lose. :)

Californication
Hank Moody

Hank/Trixie -- I NEED to see him happy with a woman who is going to accept him for who he is and not give him shit. Lipstick, fancy shoes, and smutty goodness are all certainly pluses. :D
Also, I love the fuck out of Becca Moody, so feel free to do Hank-Becca father-daughter scenes as well. Basically, what I love about Californication, and what I would love seeing in fic, is that it is advertised as this totally dirty show where people just amorally do drugs and have sex, but as it turns out, it's about LOVE and RESPECT and people just being nice to each other. With the exception of Karen who in my opinion is a huge, unreasonable, irrational bitch ... ahem, sorry. I love that Hank Moody is actually kind of a feminist. (He thinks it's like a criminal act for a straight man to not know where the clit is! And: "We are the proud parents of a lesbian daughter! Up top!") I love that when Charlie cheats on his wife, his comeuppance is that his wife ends up falling for the other woman and having gleeful girl-on-girl sex. I love the Bob Dylan! And, yes, I love that David Duchovny says "fuck" a lot and smokes. I'm only human.

Slings and Arrows
Geoffrey Tennant/Kate McNab

Geoffrey/Kate -- because as much as I love Geoffrey/Ellen and Jack/Kate, the director/budding actress chemistry in their scenes is too much to ignore, and they're SO PRETTY. I SO WANT something to be there. Look at all the angsty parallels between his Hamlet/Ophelia experience and her own! (Any appearance by Darren Nichols would be a plus. Perhaps he catches them in the act -- oh, the hilarity and awfulness!)
Okay, yes, this request is kind of wrong, but they're cute, and they're only fictional characters! Fantasies are fun. I think I said it all in my request, actually. I pretty much love everything about Slings and Arrows.

Carrie Vaughn - Kitty Norville Series
Cormac/Kitty Norville

By the time Yuletide rolls around, I will /probably/ have read the whole series, but at the time of this request I've only read the first book and am HUNGERING for Kitty/Cormac romance and sexy sex sex. I think Cormac's more than he seems (read: hidden gentleness! secret pain!) and I want to know why.
Kitty Norville is excellent brain candy. I am a fan. I definitely want to see more of that human/Wolf dynamic, because I think Vaughn does such a good idea of presenting it half-emotionally, half-scientifically. And Cormac/Kitty has such a hurt/comfort vibe to it -- one that runs both ways -- which is my supremo idea of MMMM. Also they are both badass and conflicted. Yay, badass and conflicted! I am all for ridiculous film noir-y goofy crime novel plots, so go for it if you want to weave that in.

Love Actually
Any

Karl and Sarah: THE HAPPY ENDING. And also the realistic one, I think, where they work their relationship around her commitment to her brother and there is SEX AND UNDERSTANDING AND GOODNESS. I would also accept schmoopy Natalie/Prime Minister or Colin/Aurelia. Or perhaps a play-by-play of movie night at the house of Daniel and Sam. Actually, that might be the best possible option. :D
Love Actually just made me happy, with its optimism and its love and its well-drawn characters. I'm sure if you offered this fandom, you've seen the movie and you love it and you have a lot of thoughts of your own about it, which I would love to see weaved into a fic that you write. Really, what I love about fanfiction is that it's like a discussion with other intelligent people about the things I love MOST in life, only it's in the form of explorative fiction. It's kind of amazing.

Just have fun. Write your heart out. And thank you so much.

Love,
Nina :)
your grateful, geeky fanfic recipient

DON'T PANIC

We celebrate peace. Yet we pay no attention to the ways of curing aggression in human beings. And when one sees in psychoanalysis hostility disappearing as people conquer their fears, one wonders if the cure is not there.
